History of the First Suzerain

Suzerains have ruled Premier Esprit for four thousand years. The time before then . . . darkness. Barbarism. Hopeless. Until one man changed everything.

Eidolon
The Boy from the Isle
Eidolon. There's not a soul in Premier Esprit who hasn't heard his name. And yet, his past before arriving in Premier Esprit is not documented in any record. They say he crossed the sea as a boy from what is now known as Île de l’Amour. How he accomplished such a feat varies depending on the storyteller.
Eidolon
Unlike Any Other
It's said that Eidolon did not possess the look of a typical Premier Espritan. Hair like light, eyes the color of the sun, and veins of gold, he entranced all who gazed upon him. But it was the power he possessed that truly amazed everyone. The ability to use his heart to create manifestations as real as the world around him. He quickly amassed an army of followers.

The Scientist
Eidolon's Greatest Asset
Decades passed, and Eidolon's reach grew as lords bowed to his magnificent power. Among those swayed by his light was a young scientist whose brilliance defied every aspect of the brutal warring country. One who created instead of destroyed. Eidolon named this scientist his right hand, and the two immediately began construction on a grand city, Athánatos Kardiá. And on the construct that would change history forever.
The Solenoid
Unlocking the Heart
For all his gifts, the one thing Eidolon truly lacked was companionship. No one else could feel hearts. Not wanting to see Eidolon's light dim, the scientist asked for his vision of a new world and immediately began work on the single greatest creation in Premier Esprit history—the Solenoid that would allow ordinary people to resonate with their emotions and wield them in unworldly forms.

The Future Queen
The Woman from Golden Plains
While the scientist focused on turning his allies into Résonateurs, Eidolon continued his quest to conquer the southern half of Premier Esprit. His dreams would not be complete with half the country still wandering blindly in the darkness. During this campaign, something happened that not even Eidolon's heart was prepared for. He saw a young woman working the fields on a local lord's lands . . . and the sun shone brighter than it ever had.
A Period of Happiness
The First Résonateur Age
Eidolon and his queen ruled happily for eight years, during which time they produced a son, his heir Maël. With his family and the technique for producing Résonateurs perfected, Eidolon found something he once thought impossible—a place where he belonged. But happiness, they say, is a twin and cannot exist without its sibling sadness.

A Cracked Heart
The Queen's Fall
Legends say it started with a crack louder than thunder. Then the world shook. A tremendous vibration that made the stones grind while terrified citizens huddled under tables. Then all feel silent. The next morning, announcements rang throughout the city. A terrible accident had befallen the queen. Athánatos Kardiá and Eidolon fell into mourning.
The Clouded Sun
Ten Years of Mourning
The city that once shone with sunlight now became trapped in a permanent haze, even when the sky remained clear. Eidolon, whose warmth once radiated over his people, had become reclusive, spending half his time away on a campaign he refused to share with even his closest Résonateurs. The scientist equally had become a rare sight, only gracing the palace when summoned by the Suzerain. The city wasn't the only thing whose foundation had cracked.

Athánatos Kardiá's Last Sunset
The Great Cataclysm
Accounts of what happened during that eve are rare. According to records from survivors, a massive group of terrifying beings with black, mist-like bodies and white faces rose from beneath the city and began slaughtering the citizens. Those that survived exhibited strange behavior, becoming apathetic to the chaos around them. Fearing disease, the citizens attacked each other. Blood ran through the streets. Horrified, Eidolon ordered his Résonateurs to take Maël and flee, telling his son he was now the light in the darkness. Eidolon descended into the city and never returned.
Rise of Suzerain Maël
The Foundation of Éthéré Coeur
As they fled the city, the ground quaked so violently that the Résonateurs and Maël fell from their horses and a tremendous cloud of dust swept over them. When the dirt settled and the world stilled, they couldn't believe their eyes. Athánatos Kardiá now lay buried in the earth. Maël circled the ruins of his former home as through searching for something. He returned to the Résonateurs with a shrouded figure—the scientist. Suzerain Maël did not rest. After gathering his father's allies from nearby regions, he immediately ordered the construction of a new capital. One that kept the remains of the old concealed in shadows. When asked if it was wise to build on such tainted ground, he is recorded as saying, "My father entrusted me with a duty. It rests here."
