Résonateur Recruit
L’Académie de Manipulation Émotionnelle des Résonateurs isn't an ordinary academy. It's eight years of discipline, dedication, emotional training, and withstanding the harshest of conditions to earn a distinction like no other: Résonateur. Recruits start at age thirteen with a standard ivory uniform. If they make it to their fifth year, and few seldom do, they earn a single floral embroidery over the left breast. Old Résonateur bloodlines encourage the passing on of family embroidery, but the decision is ultimately up to the recruit. They carry their embroidery for life.
Résonateur Instructeur
Résonateur instructeurs and instructrices are masters of emotional manipulation who have dedicated their lives to training the next generation of young recruits. Don't expect any leniency or sympathy. These instructeurs have one goal—to weed out the weak and ensure the Résonateurs being sent out into the world can kill Phases and dampened. Instructeur uniforms can be identified by their personalized embroidery and stunning gold golden aiguillettes cords that run from left chest to shoulder.
Résonateur
Graduates receive the rank of Résonateur. For some, this is the moment their life completely changes. Résonateurs are protectors of the people—an extension of the Suzerain's will. They are sent out on missions to eliminate Phases and dampened. Résonateurs have received a high-quality education and are encouraged to engage with townspeople. The embroidery on their uniforms is a more custom and detailed form of the flora selected during training. At this rank, they have not yet mastered their advanced Résonateur abilities.
Résonateur Commandant
The cream of the crop. To be a commandant is to show the world you have mastered what it means to be a Résonateur. Commandants have a full range of abilities at their disposal including their own personalized specialty shaped through years of training of emotional development. They receive their own crews, Commandant-class soulever, and housing in the Crest. The mark of a commandant is their signature greatcoat with epaulettes, which are all custom-made. No two commandants have the same greatcoat, and their embroidery can be as elaborate as the tailor can handle.
Résonateur Commandant Suprême
The highest-ranking Résonateur in the Paramount. The Commandant Suprême lives in the Résonateur Édifice and oversees mission assignments, receives reports from returning Résonateurs, heads the academy, and maintains the Solenoid service records. All Résonateurs fall under their commandant, and the Commandant Suprême has the authority to strip or promote rank. The Commandant Suprême uniform is a greatcoat distinguished by fur around the collar.
Archiviste
Archivistes are the collectors, manipulators, and keepers of all data in the Paramount library. With their vigiles and quills in hand, they never miss an opportunity to jot down some mindless detail that is irrelevant, but information none the less. Archivistes graduate from a six-year apprenticeship and have a ranking system that runs from third to elite. Their uniforms are lilac with gold buttons. Not to be outdone by the embroidery of other uniforms, many archivistes decorate their lapels with floral pins.
Sommet Chancelier and Councilmen
Chancelier isn't just a fancy title. This person serves as the head of the governing Sommet and right hand to the Suzerain, often taking on decision deemed unworthy of the Suzerain's time. The Sommet hold session in the Bibliothèque de l’Archiviste and have archvisite assistants who keep records for them. Sommet councilmen wear rich purple robes, which the chancelier may embroider with a flower of his choosing.
Paramount Guard
The burgundy-wearing guards for the Paramount serve a variety of purposes, the main of which is physically keeping citizens in line. Guards are stationed at every tower in Éthéré Coeur, at the gates between ring districts, and in select towns which their presence is either desirable or necessary. A special few guards are selected for commandant escort, where they accompany the commandants on missions as . . . burley frisk control.
Aérien Opérateur
The pilots of soulevers. Like archivistes, many aérien opérateurs complete an apprenticeship to fly Paramount vessels, but that's not the only way to get behind the levers of a commandant's transport. There's a yearly trial in which talented commercial aérien opérateurs can show off their skills and secure a coveted teal uniform. If they can acquire a recommendation for the limited number of spots.
Sub-opérateurs and Soulever Port Workers
Sub-opérateurs assist aérien opérateurs, while port workers perform maintenance and repairs on soulevers. Both wear beige uniforms to indicate their profession, but only those working in Éthéré Coeur's Crest harbor are considered part of the Paramount's governing body.
Medic
Known for their unmistakable sky-blue coats, medics can be found throughout Premier Esprit, although more rural villages tend to have an herbalist. Medics make use of a variety of medicines, toniques, and when necessary, surgery. The Paramount has two primary divisions of medics: one in the Pylône de la Science to research advances in medicine and one in the Résonateur Édifice to tend to Résonateur wounds . . . and births.
Solenoid Ingénieur
Few Paramount positions are as mysterious as that of the Solenoid ingénieurs, and even catching sight of the white uniform with black stripes is considered a rare occurance. Responsible for building siphons and the shells for Solenoids, potential candidates go through a rigorous vetting process before even setting foot in the sub-tower lab. Those chosen go on to serve a ten-year apprenticeship before either remaining in the Paramount lab or being assigned to select towns to monitor their Solenoids. Solenoid ingénieurs are forbidden from opening Solenoids. Toxins.
Grand Ingénieur Adjutants
Clad in silver, these two perform one of the most important roles in the Paramount—assisting the Grand Ingénieur preparing and sealing the Solenoids. Most of their time is spent isolated in the Solenoid lab underchambers, rarely socializing with the other Solenoid ingénieurs. However, in the event a Solenoid has been reported ruptured or damaged, they are the first to be dispatched to assess the situation and repair the damage.
Grand Ingénieur
The highest-ranking individual in the Pylône de la Science, the Grand Ingénieur is a man an enigmatic as half the projects in the tower. While he oversees technological advancement as a whole, his main duty is the completion of Solenoids, which are then turned over to the Solenoid ingénieurs for transport and installation. Unlike the Sommet Chancelier and Commandant Suprême, the Grand Ingénieur divides his time between two locations: Éthéré Coeur and Port Horreur. His uniform is solid black with a single hellebore in the center of the breast. Rumors say his mask hides disfigurement from a Solenoid.
Savant and Scientist
Savants head projects and oversee the scientists working under them. Any advancement in technology from engineering, infrastructure, medicine, and ancient research is conducted in the Pylône de la Science under the supervision of a savant. Like the archvisites, scientists must complete an apprenticeship, the competition for which is fierce, but every so often, a chance encounter can help you skip straight to the tower and into a pewter uniform.
Sea Dock Worker
Sea dock workers perform all things marine, including building and crewing ships, managing cargo, and monitoring the coast around Premier Esprit for dangers, particularly along the eastern side of the country. These workers wear green. Hopefully their faces don't turn the same color in the wild waves.
Enquête Ombre
The lowest level of the Paramount's investigation division, the Enquête. Enquête are responsible for gathering information on crimes, conspiracies, and quelling acts of rebellion before they become more than whispers. Most ombres are orphans taken in by the Paramount and given purpose. They specialize in convert information collection, and may be dispatched in towns to live among ordinary citizens. Out of the navy uniform with its signature iris embroidery and bronze mask, you'd never know your neighbor is actually an ombre.
Enquête Officier
Enquête officiers are Résonateurs who have been selected to join the Enquête. The selection is rarely voluntary, but those chosen heed the call of duty regardless. Enquête Résonateurs undergo an additional four years of grueling training during which they become masters of émanation manipulation. This enables them to hide their own émanations while being able to sense even the faintest traces in others. Needless to say, officiers excel at interrogation. And assassination. Officiers are known for the bronze striping on their shoulders.
Enquête Adjutant
Right hand to the Enquête Magistrat, the adjutant is often one who excels at every form of duty the Enquête prize . . . and some they don't mention. It is not required for an adjutant to be a Résonateur, provided they can prove their worth and skill. The adjutant's uniform has more eleborate decoration on the shoulders and retains the Enquête iris embroidery. They follow the Magistrat's orders unquestionably and are more than capable of instilling obedience in the ranks.
Enquête Magistrat
Few draw the gaze of fear like the Enquête Magistrat. An expert Résonateur will a mind to match his skill with émanation and a blade, the Magistrat is not one to be trifled with. It's said most hang themselves rather than face him. When the navy greatcoat enters the room, the room becomes petrified.
